Working on Emma. I need to relocate the trans crossmember and get some other prep done so I can start the engine for the first time. Any tips on starting an engine for the first time or relocating a crossmember? Also tonight: I am going to take an old distributor and make an oil priming tool so I can get oil everywhere.

Prime oil pump, set timing at base (I think), fill fuel bowls with gas, uhhhhhhhh.... turn key and pray?
How are you relocating the crossmember? Welding it into place? Drill and tap new holes for bolts?

I need to drill new holes, the OE ones were not tapped. The member has to move about 6 or 7 inches back. How would you set the timing without running the engine?
Also, can you give me a link to your Trans Am photo albums? Your core support is assembled and I don't remember how to put mine back together.

I think there's a base setting for where to put the distributor. I could be wrong, its been a damn long time since I read about working on one.

Ugh, everytime I look at them I see another thing I need to add to the list of things I need to finish the car some day....

You need better drill bits.

Probably, I also need bigger bits. Any clue how to create an inch diameter hole in metal without a torch?

Bring number one piston to TDC, set distributor in so that the rotor is pointing at the number one point on the distributor cap, and voila. That should get you close enough to fire the engine up. After that you'll need a timing light to dial in the timing exactly.
Funnily enough, I was going to do a full writeup on this when I get around to timing my truck after the intake and carb swap. School's just gotten in the way of working on it.
